Energy actually helps design this heat-sensitive lamp. The first time the bulb is switched on, the heat reacts with pigments in the plastic shade, causing them to expand. The hotter the light the more the shade deforms.

Seeing the Barry table lamp in someone’s living room might tempt you to ask if the owner has a pet ostrich. The futuristic-looking light resembles a big egg, and most likely a soft-boiled one since it has a chunk of the sphere sliced off to serve as a “lid.” From what we can tell from the pictures and some hasty online translation, a circle of LEDs in the base glow and have their light diffused by reflective surfaces within the lid to create some funky ambient illumination. Pretty cool, as long as a face-hugging alien doesn’t jump out. You can probably buy one from Flux, but we got lost in all the Swedish after a couple of clicks, so you’re on your own.

It looks different from every angle and its sensuous curved surfaces create many intriguing reflections? The natural shape of the blades creates no noise ? they slice through the air in nearly total silence.

Inside each of these tiles are hundreds of light-conducting channels that are carved into a transparent block of clear of pigmented polymer. These fiber-optic elements give the tiles the ability to magically shift, shimmer and ripple in response to movement and changes in light. The tiles will respond to shadows, moving lights and will also pick up surrounding colors and disperse them on its surface.
